Today on @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday, we take a pause on the series we have been covering to talk about a subject that I have discussed many times as an educator, and has come up several times in the last week. There is no "one way" in art. Unless u are working for a band, artist or agency (i.e. there is $$ involved)...u be u! Ur an artist and equally valid in the community. whether ur someone that knows 3 chords and plays for fun, a seasoned veteran, a multi-platinum performer or have more degrees than a thermometer. Regardless of age or genre. It doesn't matter if u live in the hippest part of town or in the suburbs. Have a day job..have a family...part of a two income household...have hobbies, etc.. We, as artists, should have the opportunity to enjoy the same things in life as anyone else...if u want them...have at it! None of these things make u any less valid in the art. Why am I talking about this? Because people I know (including myself) have been "vibed" over them. For some reason, artistic output is not enough. Some feel you have to fit a mold. When I was younger, I went to a dentist..nice guy, but just didn't get it. He once asked me when I was going to give up music because I wasn't famous. I told him, while I was not famous, I was successful...my bills were paid, including his!, at the end of the month. Nobody askes a plumber or accountant if they're famous..lol. Fame is not always the goal. After my childhood, it was NEVER my goal. Many of us just want to live..as an artist. Some full time, some part time, whatever works. U dig? Creativity doesn't care. So here, our "how" section is to ease up on ourselves and others. We are a community of artists where there are many roads, many seats. Through diversity we become stronger. As always, I invite ur insights. #yamahamusicusa #makewaves #pirastro #glasserny #uptonbassstringinstrumentcompany #laklandbasses #sitstrings #tsunamicables #philjonesbass #basslessons #remotelessons
