You!!

On this edition of @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday...we talk about "YOU". I have covered this subject before, but based on discussions this week, I feel it needs to be covered again. As artists, we need to find our own path...our own voice. It's a continually evolving, lifelong journey. A caveat here, if you accept a playing situation that requires you to play/look/act a certain way, it is your obligation to do so. However, that doesn't mean you forsake your own artistic identity outside of that given situation. So, let's begin. We all come from different roots and have all begun our journey in different places. Some of us started with friends, family or church..in school bands or garage bands. Some are self-taught, some formally educated or maybe a mixture of the two. Some had great gear from the start, some have whatever they can afford. Some have seen much success, some have struggled from the beginning. Some have started and/or stayed in one genre, others moved on or diversified. Etc., etc., etc. The bottom line is..no matter what...IT IS ALL GOOD!. No journey is better than another. Furthermore, no choice or opinion is better than another. Like Fender? Hate Fender? Fine! 4?, 5? 6? 27 string? Sure! Love Jaco? Have no use for Jaco? OK! Love bass solos? Think they're boring? NP! Wanna gig? Just want to play by yourself for pleasure? Yes! U dig? U are under no obligation to conform to the opinion of any person, "celebrity" or group. You be you! It's the differences that make us better and art more interesting. We are a community of creating artists, not a collection of clones! Of course, our choices come with consequences..some good, some not so much...but they are inherently ours. But these choices make us unique and an important and equal part of the music community. As always, I invite your insights. #yamahamusicusa #makewaves #pirastro #glasserny #laklandbasses #sitstrings #tsunamicables #philjonesbass #basslessons #remotelessons
