On this installment of @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday, we tie up our discussion if "myths" by stating some "truths". Again, a caveat here. The "truths" I will present here are based on my experience as a performer and educator. Many of these can be up for debate. U disagree? GOOD! Any worthwhile topic can benefit from cordial discourse. OK...truth: "ENJOY!". Yes, playing takes work, time and effort. Sometimes it is tedious. Some gigs or playing situations may not be ideal. But you need to follow a path that brings you joy. Whether full time or bedroom player. The journey is just as magical as the destination, u dig?  Truth: "You are part of a greater whole". As an artist, you are socially, artistically and creativley linked to others. Whether part of a community, band, club, church...whatever. This is a good thing! Use it to get help, provide help to others. Find players to collaborate with! Find a mentor...be a mentor! We are stronger together! Truth: "GOOD gear is gear u like". PERIOD. There are no requirements here, unless those stated in a playing situation. U like it, u play it, u enjoy it and no one else's opinion matters. Truth: "We are ALL students of the art". Even the "godz", "heroes" and "legends" are included here. ALL OF US are still learning and growing and, IMO, those that feel they have mastered anything are kidding themselves. Our "heores" are not to be worshiped. They are not goals or destinations. They are ports to move from and beyond. They should provide inspiration not intimidation or discouragement. Therefore, LEARN! EXPLORE! EVOLVE! CREATE!  Be the best "YOU" you can be! Truth: "There is no 'JUST'". Not just an amateur, not just self-taught, not just a rock player, etc. We are ALL valid, we all can contribute to the conversation. We are all artists on the same level. As always, I invite your insights. #yamahamusicusa #makewaves #pirastro #glasserny #laklandbasses #sitstrings #tsunamicables #philjonesbass #uptonbassstringinstrumentcompany #basslessons  #remotelessons
