On this installment of @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday, we discuss,  "Thinking Outside the Box". We all have comfort zones. The genres, styles, riffs, licks we go to again and again. The problem is, staying there can make us stale...and we can get bored. Leaving our comfort zone(s) can be terrifying, but IMO it can lead to some incredible results and improvements in ur playing. As usual, how? This is where "thinking outside the box" comes in. Think about "where u are"...and where u could go. Leave "want" out of it at first and be as open minded as possible. While making ur evaluation try to avoid the "I'm never gonna use this" mindset. This is for two reasons:  one, u never know what playing situations u will encounter in the future and two, the farther u go, the more u will explore and discover. Think about concept cars at a car show, or high fashion, or any "futuristic" presentations. What they are showing is nowhere near what would be considered practical in everyday life. BUT...there are things to be learned from them that are applicable. Search every area...talk to other players, a teacher, the internet. Cast a wide net. THEN, make your choices...some for now, maybe some for later. My experience is the farther u go, u will want to go EVEN FARTHER. This exercise has benefitted my playing many times over my career and the same for countless students. As always, I invite your insights. #yamahamusicusa #makewaves #pirastro #glasserny #laklandbasses #sitstrings #tsunamicables #philjonesbass #uptonbassstringinstrumentcompany #basslessons  #remotelessons #www.charleysabatino.com.

Clones

On this installment of @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday, we discuss "clones". I'm not referring to Star Wars or abominations of nature happening in secret labs underneath castles.
