How Do u Define Urself

On this installment of @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday we discuss how we define ourselves as artists. More specifically, do we define ourselves by our playing situation? Genre? Level of participation? Gear? Other's opinions? The reason I ask is...what happens if one or more of those things change? Are u done? Do u start over? This is a very important thought process. I have seen it with countles students. IMO, NOTHING other than u defines u. Ur goals, desires, plans, etc....while they may INCLUDE those other things (temporarily?), they are not the driving force. Ur "dream" band falls apart? U decide that ur no longer into metal and now are obsessed with polkas? U grow tired if 27 string basses tuned to ancient Mayan tonality? U got a new job with a crazy schedule? Ur still the same artist, but ur just adapting to life. So...now what? Determine your goal(s) as an artist. Personal goals. They can be lofty or conservative, but apply to YOU! While they may refer to "outside " factors, they should by no means RELY on them...u dig? Ur journey is yours. Your development and progress is paramount. The more you focus on your growth, the better u will be prepared for the changes and opportunities (good or bad) that occur in life and music and achieve your full potential. As always, I invite your insights. #yamahamusicusa #makewaves #pirastro #glasserny #laklandbasses #sitstrings #tsunamicables #philjonesbass #uptonbassstringinstrumentcompany #basslessons #remotelessons #www.charleysabatino.com.
