On this installment of @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday, we round out the last set of discussions on what to practice by talking about "how" to practice. This issue seems to permeate through every level, style and background of player I have met and/or taught. The key here is honesty, consistency and planning. The more you focus on these three areas IMO, the more succesful you will be. In order to achieve real progress, you have to be able to monitor your shed journey so you can make changes, add/subtract subjects, etc. It should be designed to maximize your progress. Ok, how? First thing u need to do is determine how much time u can CONSISTENTLY put aside for practice 5 days per week. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF.  We are not 15 years old and can play for 12 hours per day...find the right number. I have had students with crazy schedules, new babies, etc. That could only do 15 minutes a day...and they still moved forward to some extent. Also, if you start small, u will invariably find that you may be able to increase your shed time. Ok, once u determine your time, now PLAN ur week. Yes, the whole week (I plan my shed 6 months to a year in advance..yeah, I'm a lunatic). We have talked about fundamentals and challenges. Choose the areas from each you want to work on based on your musical goals (I have spoken many times on that subject as well) This way, there is no time wasted...u know what ur doing as soon as you begin. As the week progresses, you may need to change things up as some areas will need more or less time. Have a comfortable place to practice and all ur supplies handy before beginning. Alert family members/roommates/cohabitants ur not to be disturbed...AND GO! You will be amazed how quickly you will progress! As always, I invite your insights. #yamahamusicusa #makewaves #pirastro #glasserny #laklandbasses #sitstrings #tsunamicables #philjonesbass #uptonbassstringinstrumentcompany #basslessons  #remotelessons #www.charleysabatino.com
