On this installment of @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday, we continue the series on Fundamentals. Today, "Extended Techniques". That is, those playing methods beyond what ur doing now. Pick if u play fingers, fingers if u play pick, multiple fingers, slap, tap, "finger pick", double thumb, arco and/or pizz. for upright., etc. Remember, none are superior to any other. U do u! Choose the one(s) u want to or feel u need to work on and have at it! As I've said may times in these talks, the more you know, the more u bring to the table musically. The bottom line is using what u need to express ur ideas to the listener. As usual, how? As I said above, choose which techniques u want to work on. Next, find a GOOD approach or lesson plan. A teacher, tutorial, book, etc.. Learn each one completely and originally. Don't just learn riffs or tricks. They will become stale very quickly...to u AND the listener. Make them ur OWN. Study them fundamentally and find ways to incorporate ur playing into them. For example, slap technique. Find a plan that maps out EACH part of the technique. Posture, thumbing, plucking, hammer ons, pull offs, octaves, string crossing, dead notes, time, playing over chords,  etc. Then put them all together creativley! U dig? Treat these subjects as u would any other in the shed. Once u feel comfortable with them, you can incorporate them into ur fundamental practice and eventually into ur playing.  Next week "Challenges" As always, I invite your insights. #yamahamusicusa #makewaves #pirastro #glasserny #laklandbasses #sitstrings #tsunamicables #philjonesbass #uptonbassstringinstrumentcompany #basslessons  #remotelessons #www.charleysabatino.com
