Today on a "Holy Crap its August" @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday, we talk "Choose Your Path". As an artist, you can go down many roads and ultimately, the choice is yours depending your goals. Usually, the choices include one or more factors. Genre(s), level of involvement, making a living (through music or somethong else), education, influences, culture and family are examples. All are valid and personal. U wanna play covers? Great! U only want to play only ur music? Sure! Tribute bands? Originals? Shows? Busking? Nursing homes? Festivals? Whatever! Understand, any choice comes with advantages and disadvantages. Your job is to evaluate them when u choose. Paths can change throughout ur life too. As you mature, or as other parts of your life change...and that's ok too. Mine has changed several times. All of these twists and turns have helped me get to where I am now. Of course, some paths come to us...but we still can choose to take them or not. So, how? The key is to decide what ur goals are. Just like goals in the shed, you need to decide what u want to get out of the art. The goals will then help dictate where you want to go. Need help? A teacher, colleague, mentor...someone with more experience can help. Try out different situations if u can to see if ur choices are indeed what u want. Be open, be curious, be unapologetic, be creative! As always, I invite your insights. #yamahamusicusa #makewaves #pirastro #glasserny #laklandbasses #sitstrings #tsunamicables #philjonesbass #uptonbassstringinstrumentcompany #basslessons #remotelessons

Clones

On this installment of @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday, we discuss "clones". I'm not referring to Star Wars or abominations of nature happening in secret labs underneath castles.
