On this installment of @yamahamusicusa #silentbass and @laklandbasses Friday, we conclude our talk on fundamentals with a discussion on "Challenges ". What is a challenge? It's a skill or skills that go "farther" than fundamentals. They may require more in depth work, more individual creativity...more time and effort to understand.  Challenges are where, IMO, we truly see improvement. These skills are "next level". Examples are sightreading, bassline construction, walking lines, soloing, study of another style or genre, application of advanced techniques, reharmonization, advanced music theory, transcription and composition. As usual, how?  The first thing is to choose which challenges you want to work on. The choice is yours and can obviously change over time. Next, determine what skill or skills are needed. Like with fundamentals, take them apart into manageable bits, then SLOWLY bring everything together. Get help from a teacher, colleague, online resource or book. Apply them to real playing situations. Get someone to "play along" with u to mark ur progress. My experience is success with challenges makes u study fundamentals harder, thereby increasing ur foundation and expanding ur ability to take on more challenges....lifelong growth...u dig? Next week, we talk about how to practice. As always, I invite your insights. #yamahamusicusa #makewaves #pirastro #glasserny #laklandbasses #sitstrings #tsunamicables #philjonesbass #uptonbassstringinstrumentcompany #basslessons  #remotelessons #www.charleysabatino.com
